Driver Of Pickup Faces Murder Charges After Fatal Crash

A man accused of causing the death of his passenger in a drunken crash in Jones Valley earlier this year will stand trial. On the night of April 26th, 33-year-old Danny Franklin of Lakewood was driving a pickup truck northbound on Dry Creek Road between Argonaut Road and Bear Mountain Road when he lost control and the pickup hit a parked truck on the side of the road and overturned. The passenger, 23-year-old Layton Ward Cesario of Redding, was partially ejected and was declared dead at the scene. Franklin, who had complaints of pain, was arrested. He faces charges including second degree murder, DUI causing injury with a prior conviction, hit and run causing death, driving on a suspended license due to a prior DUI, and enhancements for causing great bodily injury and having a high blood alcohol level. He also had a warrant from Orange County for a 2009 DUI. Franklin’s trial is set to begin December 6th.
