Authorities Seek Driver Of SUV That Sparked Fire

Redding Fire Investigators are seeking the driver of a green Chevy Blazer believed responsible for a fire that ripped through brush and trees at the northern edge of Redding Tuesday night. The fire started at around 6:30PM off of Oasis Road near Randolph Road west of the freeway. Redding Fire Inspector Craig Wittner says that the blazer was hauling a boat trailer westbound on Oasis Road when a tire blew out and sparks from it ignited the dry grass. The driver continued to pull the unlicensed and unroadworthy trailer and eventually stopped and unhooked it before fleeing the scene. A Cal-Fire tanker dropped a line of retardant across the head of the blaze and it was stopped at 11 acres without damaging any structures. Anyone with information on the blazer driver is encouraged to contact Redding Fire Department.
