Man Jumps Into River In Attempt To Avoid Arrest

A zap of electricity wasn’t enough to stop a fleeing fugitive but a dip in the chilly Sacramento River cooled the man off right away. At around 1:30PM Thursday afternoon 35-year-old James Roberts of Happy Camp was stopped by a CHP Officer on Court  Street near the river in Redding for a traffic violation. Roberts got out of his vehicle and wouldn’t comply with the officer. As Roberts made furtive movements while reaching into his vehicle the officer felt threatened enough to pull his Taser. He shot Roberts with the device but it reportedly had little effect as Roberts stated that he had warrants and took off running toward the river. He jumped in to try and swim away but quickly changed his mind and swam back to shore into the custody of waiting officers. After being medically cleared at a hospital Roberts was booked into jail for resisting arrest and his warrants.
