Firefighters managed to save part of a house from fire just west of Redding Monday morning. Shortly before 6AM Cal-Fire, Centerville, and Redding Firefighters were called to 9064 Placer Road about a mile east of Swasey. The garage of the house was fully ablaze, with flames spreading into the living area. About half of the house was saved but it’s not inhabitable. The elderly couple who lived there credits their Chihuahua with saving their lives. “Shadow’s” frantic barking awoke them so they could escape the house. The little dog suffered smoke inhalation and stopped breathing but he was resuscitated by Cal-Fire personnel. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
