Teen Arrested After Attempted Rape

A teenager has been arrested after trying to rape a woman Tuesday morning in North Redding, according to Redding Police. Officers were called to a home in the 5700 block of Cascade Drive regarding a stabbing. When they arrived they found a 56-year-old woman who had been physically assaulted and had visible injuries. She was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. Officers say that a 16-year-old boy entered her home and confronted her shortly after her arrival. The boy was armed with a pair of scissors, and allegedly assaulted her and tried to rape her. He began to strangle the woman, who was able to fight the boy off with help from neighbors. The teen was found a short time later and arrested without incident. He allegedly confessed to his involvement. He was booked into Shasta County Juvenile Hall on attempted murder charges. Officers say the boy had been propositioning women in the Mountain View Neighborhood the day prior asking for sexual favors. Anyone who may have seen the boy is asked to call Redding Police.
