Fire In Humboldt County Forces Evacuations

An arson fire is burning on Hoopa Land in Humboldt County. The Tulley Fire was started intentionally around 4 O’clock Monday afternoon off of Highway 169 and Martin’s Ferry Road northwest of Weitchpec. It actually was started as 3 fires, one large one and two smaller ones, burning on very steep and rugged terrain in heavy timber and slash that hasn’t burned in over 30 years. There are nearly 800 firefighters on scene. As of Tuesday night the fire had burned 440 acres and one residence with 5% containment. 30 structures are threatened and evacuations have been ordered.
