An elderly man got lost in the woods north of Lakehead after walking the wrong way. At around 8 O’clock Sunday night 53-year-old Mark Dause of Galt called the sheriff’s office to say his father, 81-year-old Myron Dause, was missing in the area of Slate Creek Road and Incline Creek. The father and son and a friend were hunting and camping, as they’ve done in the area for 20 years. Mark and his friend headed into the woods to go hunting while Myron said he would go gold panning in Slate Creek. When the hunters returned to camp Myron was gone. He fired a gun in the air and heard an answering shot but when he fired more shots there was no reply. After driving around looking for Myron they called for help. Search and rescue teams searched all Sunday night for Myron and more searchers joined in Monday. At 4 O’clock in the afternoon Myron was found walking near Halls Gulch in Trinity County. He said he had been panning and it got dark before he knew it and he kept falling down trying to find camp so he waited until morning, then he walked the wrong way. He was hungry and thirsty but otherwise fine.
