Evacuations Lifted For Area Wildfires

Major progress is being made on fighting a Siskiyou County forest fire and all evacuations have been lifted. The Gap Fire started on the Klamath National Forest 20 miles west of Yreka August 27th from an unknown cause. It’s burning in very heavy timber with a large buildup of dead and downed material, producing massive amounts of smoke. At least nine houses have been destroyed, and the Forest Service says others appear to have been lost but that’s not confirmed on the ground. The latest estimate of the gap fire is 31,000 acres with 65% containment.

All evacuations have been lifted from a wildfire in Butte County. The size of the Saddle Fire has not grown. It remains 850 acres with 50% containment, though Cal-Fire says 100 structures are still threatened. 3 structures have been destroyed. The blaze started as five separate fires at around 4:30PM Monday afternoon off Pentz Road south of Paradise. The cause is still under investigation.
