Redding Police Seek Downtown Stabbing Suspect

A squatter at a boarded-up motel in downtown Redding was stabbed Saturday morning. At 8am Lucus Berkel was sleeping in a room at the Redding Inn on Pine Street, which closed earlier this year under the pressure of fines and charges from Redding Police and the DA’s office. The 28-year-old man told police that he had no idea why the assailant came into the room and attacked him. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for a superficial wound to his lower back. The suspect, who was last seen heading north on foot, was a white male wearing black pants, a black hoodie and a backpack. His name is not known by police but he’s reportedly known on the street as “KJ”
