Hiker Found Dead in Klamath Forest

Not all search and rescue operations turn out as they should. At 5 o’clock Monday morning the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office was told of an overdue hiker. A family member said 55-year-old Kevin Rickey of Quartz Valley was hiking the Kidder Creek Trail on Sunday and was supposed to return at sundown. As a search and rescue team was being assembled, the mission ended before it began when another hiker found the deceased body of Rickey about 2 miles from the trailhead. The area is covered in snow and ice, preventing a helicopter recovery, so a ground operation was used to carry the body out of the forest. An autopsy is planned.
