A teenager who robbed a bank in downtown Redding and gave all the stolen money away to homeless people has entered a no contest plea. 18-year-old Daniel Alex Cordova robbed the Sierra Central Credit Union on Pine Street May 10th. He entered the bank and sat down on a couch until most of the customers left, then he approached a teller’s window and passed over a note demanding money. No weapon was seen. He then headed north on foot up Pine Street. RPD investigator Rusty Bishop recognized Cordova in the surveillance photos. That led police to check a home on Walnut Avenue. When they got there they learned that Cordova had just left after changing his clothes. The clothing used in the robbery was found along with the note. As officers combed the neighborhood they learned that Cordova had arrived at the jail empty handed. During an interview he confessed to the robbery but said the money was gone. He said he bought clothing from homeless people as he walked to Walnut Avenue, including a t-shirt for $150. He said he gave the rest of the money away to random homeless people he met on the street. On Tuesday Cordova pled to second degree robbery. He’ll be evaluated by the Behavioral Health Court and sentenced December 27th.
