Residents Urged To Be Ready For Cold Weather

Temperatures are forecast to go below freezing the next couple of night, and we could even see a chance for snow in the valley. The homeless and older adults are especially susceptible to the dangers of cold weather, according to the Shasta County Department of Health and Human Services. Other groups that may be at risk include people who work outside, children, and those who live in poorly insulated homes without heat or power. Due to the buildup of carbon monoxide it is recommended that you never build a fire or run a gas heater indoors. Accidental deaths occur each year, including two recently in Siskiyou County. Also never use a range or BBQ for indoor heat, keep vents free of debris and seek help right away if you don’t feel well. Also check on elderly neighbors, and bring pets indoors.
