Bomb Threats, Theft Of Panties Ends In Prison Sentence

A Tehama County man is going to prison for crimes including bomb threats, car theft, and stealing ladies’ panties. In October of 2015 video surveillance in a Red Bluff apartment complex laundry room showed 36-year-old Trevor Scott James taking women’s underwear out of clothes dryers and stuffing them down his pants. The video also showed James driving away in a green Subaru. Red Bluff Police stopped James in the Subaru the following day and learned the car was stolen. Inside they found a backpack containing the stolen underwear, along with 18 other pair of women’s underwear of various sizes. Two months later James pled guilty and was scheduled for sentencing on January 26th of this year. That morning the sheriff’s office got two phone calls from James about bombs he said had been placed near a courtroom and near a water fountain outside the courthouse. The buildings were evacuated and the grounds were cordoned off while a search began and the Shasta County Bomb Squad was called to examine a cylinder-shaped device that was found. James approached deputies who were stationed around the perimeter and talked to some of them, saying that he was supposed to appear in court and wondered if he would be excused. He was told that despite the evacuation he would still need to stick around and make an appearance. After James walked around the corner another call came in, with the caller saying he had planted bombs in all of the courtrooms as well. The deputies became suspicious of James and asked if he had a cell phone. He said he did and they asked if they could see it. He gave it to them and they found that all recent call history had been deleted. James said he didn’t know what his phone number was but detectives were able to trace the bomb threat calls to the phone. He was arrested and a search warrant was served at his home, where items were found that linked him to the fake bomb. James has been sentenced to 14 years 8 months in state prison.
