18 scholarships and grants up to $5000 each will be made available to local students who are interested in a career in the electric utility industry. The Redding City Council gave approval Tuesday night for the electric utility launch the program dubbed “Powering Redding’s Future”. It will be administered by the Shasta Regional Community Foundation and is designed for students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited four year college, university, or technical school. The student must either live in REU’s service territory, or have a parent or guardian who is a REU customer. REU hopes to encourage youth to consider a career in the industry, and hopefully with REU.
