A man was killed after an unidentified person intentionally sparked a structure fire at a Johnson Park gas station, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes unit. At about 7PM Wednesday night deputies were called to the Rocky Ledge Shell Station and found a man suffering from severe burns. David Wicks was provided medical treatment, but succumbed to his injuries. Wicks was an employee of the gas station, and detectives say that an unknown person entered the store and began spraying some type of flammable liquid at Wicks and around the store. Surveillance footage shows Wicks being doused with the liquid and as the suspect began to leave the store Wicks is seen emerging from behind a counter area. The suspect is seen igniting the fluid before fleeing the store on a black colored bicycle. The fire engulfed the store and Wicks was severely burned. Deputies do not know why Wicks was targeted. The sheriff’s office has released photographs of the suspect who, but are unable to identify them because they had covered their face. The bicycle was found nearby after the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the major crimes unit.
