2 Million Gallons Of Raw Sewage Spilled In Siskiyou County

A sewage spill in Mount Shasta City is even worse than it first appeared. Siskiyou County Officials say a main sewer line south of Hatchery Lane and west of Interstate 5 broke Wednesday, sending untreated wastewater into Cold Creek, which flows into Lake Siskiyou. It’s estimated that 2,360,000 gallons was lost, and half of that was raw sewage. The City of Mount Shasta is installing a bypass pump system to stem the wastewater outflow. It could take a couple of weeks to repair the damage because the break occurred in a remote wetlands area with limited accessibility. In the meantime, it’s urgent that nobody come into contact with the water of Cold Creek or Lake Siskiyou. Those who have should seek medical attention.
