Water Flowing Ou Of Flood Gates Of Shasta Dam

The floodgates of Shasta Dam opened for the first time in 6 years Thursday, sending a torrent of water downriver, where there’s all too much water as it is. Early Thursday the Bureau of Reclamation nearly tripled releases out of Keswick, from 14,000 cubic feet per second to 36,000 cubic feet per second. Residents of the Marina RV Park on the banks of the river off of Park Marina Drive have mostly evacuated their homes as the river rises. Its unclear when they will be allowed back home. Flood warnings remain in effect for many low-lying areas along the Sacramento River in Tehama, Glenn and other counties to the south, though the weather service says it’s starting to recede.
