The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office is warning flatlanders about the perils of mountain roads. Many search-and-rescue requests have been made by people lately who have become stranded on rural forest roads connecting Big Bar to Hayfork, Hyampom and Burnt Ranch, as well as a road that goes around the French Creek Slide. They’re all Forest Service roads that are not intended for winter travel by any type of vehicle. The roads are narrow with unstable shoulders and they’re prone to frequent slides. Now that they’re covered in snow and ice, they’re extremely dangerous for driving. Here’s a list of roads the sheriff’s office is requesting that people stay away:
