Planning Commission To Consider North Redding Hotels

An ambitious hotel plan for North Redding will again be considered by the Redding Planning Commission. In 2005 the city granted a permit for the construction of a pair of 3-story hotels and a restaurant off of Caterpillar Road between Interstate 5 and Highway 273. The Fairfield Inn was built, but now the developer wants to scrap the original permit and instead build two more hotels, both of them 4 stories high. One of them is to be a “Home2 Suite Hotel”, which is a Hilton brand promoted as a “hip extended-stay hotel experience”. A decision about the branding of the other hotel has not been made. The finished project would be 3 hotels totaling 254 rooms in 146,000 square feet of building space. A zoning variance is needed, which the commission will consider at 4 O’clock Tuesday in the city council chambers.
