Man Who Attacked Park Ranger Sentenced To Prison

A man has been sentenced for his attack on a Lassen Volcanic National Park Ranger. Last June the Ranger was investigating after reports of a man walking in the middle of the road yelling. When the Ranger drove up on 45-year-old Nicholas Coberley, the man jumped in the back of the truck and grabbed a firefighting tool, which he used to slam into the truck’s cab. He then smashed out the rear window with an axe, climbed into the cab and got the Ranger in a chokehold. He also at some point swung the axe at the back of the Ranger’s head.  Somehow the Ranger remained calm and talked Coberley out of his rage. Coberley went back home, where he was later arrested. He was sentenced Tuesday to 27 months in federal prison and 3 years supervised release.
