Man Pleads Guilty To Felony Vehicular Manslaughter

A 38-year-old man from Happy Valley has given up his fight against charges resulting from a collision nearly three years ago that killed a motorcyclist. On the evening of March 24th of 2014, Roger Ladewig Junior had been drinking and apparently had Methamphetamine in his system as well. His blood alcohol level was only .08 but his poor judgement was enough to kill James Wooten. The 63-year-old Cottonwood man was riding his 1987 Harley-Davidson westbound on Palm Avenue from Happy Valley Road when Ladewig, coming in the other direction in a Ford F-350 pickup, made a left turn directly in front of Wooten. The Harley hit the truck and Wooten was ejected, causing fatal injuries. Ladewig’s trial has been delayed multiple times but was finally ready to proceed next month. On Monday Ladewig pleaded guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence while intoxicated. He’ll be sentenced on April 3rd and he’d better hope the judge is in a good mood because the sentence could be anything from probation to 4 years in prison. In any case, remaining sober is part of the deal.
