Report Shows County Population Is Getting Older

How healthy is Shasta County? That’s a complicated question and the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency has a long answer for it. 15 different private and government organizations contributed to the assessment and nearly 3000 local residents were surveyed. The county has a population of 178,520 and we’re getting older, with 18.1% of us over the age of 65 as the percentage of young people is on the decline. The three top priority health issues identified are alcohol and drug abuse, mental health and chronic disease. The next step is the formation of a community health improvement plan.
