A man fought with a K-9 after a high speed chase in the Oak Run area Saturday afternoon. A sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a Toyota for traffic violations but driver kept going. At the intersection of Buzzard Roost Road and Phillips Road the driver slowed down, then sped south on Phillips Road in the northbound lane with his hand out the window pointing at the side of the road. After heading down a driveway off Johnson Ranch Road the man jumped from the car and ran. He was wearing a big puffy jacket and grabbing at his waistband while yelling “I have a gun”. Deputies recognized him as Victorio Tort Rhoades, a wanted parolee. Blitz the K-9 went after him and took him down. Rhoades reportedly fought with the dog, grabbing at his neck and trying to strangle him. After a struggle, Rhoades was taken into custody. He has a long and violent criminal history, with 19 prior arrests in Shasta County. He was booked after being treated at a hospital for injuries. The car had been stolen from Redding.
