Investigation Of Redding Shooting Death Continues

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office and Redding Police have been unable to confirm the identity of a man who was shot dead at the Churn Creek and Hartnell intersection Wednesday night. A 9-1-1 call was made by 27-year-old Michael Lake at 9:13PM to report that he was sitting in his vehicle at a red light and he had just shot a man on a bicycle. Investigators have not yet said if they know what led up to the altercation that ended with the man dead. Footage was recovered from nearby surveillance cameras and there were a number of witnesses, but investigators would still like to hear from anyone who can shed light on the circumstances. Rumors have ranged from road rage to carjacking but those are only rumors. Lake is a legal gun owner with a concealed weapons permit. He claimed he shot the man in self defense. After providing a statement Lake was released. The district attorney’s office will eventually determine whether Lake will be charged with a crime.
