Parolee Allegedly Attacks Nurse At Mercy

A 29-year-old Redding parolee beat up a nurse at Mercy Hospital emergency room Monday morning, according to police. Shortly after 8 O’clock  James Jeffrey French arrived in the E.R. lobby. It’s unclear what he was there for, but when he was at the admissions window for the triage process, he allegedly threatened to kill the admissions nurse, Anna Russell.  when she picked up the phone to call security French allegedly grabbed her around her throat and started choking her, then forced her up against the admissions window, picked her up off her feet and punched her in the face several times before throwing her to the floor and getting her in a headlock. A female admissions clerk pulled French away from Russell and then several bystanders detained him until security guards got there. Russell suffered injuries to her neck, face and knees. French is on parole for felony assault. Since his release early last year he’s been arrested for obstructing an officer, terrorist threats, and other parole violations. He was booked into jail Monday on multiple felony charges.
