Investigators Believe Man Found In River Was Murdered

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office believes that a man who was found dead in the Klamath River Monday had been murdered. The body of 62-year-old Jesse Francis Ward of Happy Camp was found partially submerged on the north bank of the river about 8 miles north of Yreka near a home off Highway 96. The body had come to rest in a difficult to access location and had to be recovered by boating deputies and the dive team. Ward had apparently been living in a nearby home. An autopsy revealed the cause of death, but that’s not been made public. The sheriff’s office just says that a number of factors led to their suspicions of homicide. Investigators are hoping to hear from someone about Ward’s activities over the weekend.
