Fugitive Caught After Hours Long Standoff

For the second time this year, a Redding fugitive held police in an hours-long standoff that closed roads and racked up RPD overtime, but this time they got him. Hartnell Avenue was closed between Victor and Alta Mesa for nearly 8 hours Friday as officers staked out positions around the Shadowbrook Apartments seeking 41-year-old Michael Felsch. A few weeks ago police thought Felsch was holed up in a house near the east end of Loma Vista Drive. About 7 hours and a dozen tear gas canisters later they discovered he wasn’t there, but they found a sawed-off shotgun he had apparently left behind. Felsch failed to appear in court December 19th and has since accrued seven warrants with total bail of over 1.2 Million Dollars. He was added to Shasta County’s Most Wanted list January 8th. RPD Captain Roger Moore told us at the scene that Felsch has a violent past. Friday evening, following hours of trying to contact Felsch, the RPD SWAT Team launched several tear gas canisters into the apartment before going in and searching. A few hours later officers finally found Felsch in an attic crawlspace. He had jammed himself in so tightly that a saw had to be used to get him out. He was unharmed and finally booked into jail.
