Alleged Car Thief Caught Hiding In Chicken Coop

A Corning car theft suspect was caught hiding in a chicken coop after foot chase. On Tuesday a CHP Pfficer was at a home on Hoag Road east of Corning recovering a stolen vehicle when she encountered 32-year-old Ricky James Candler. The officer was arresting Candler for possessing known stolen property when he reportedly wrestled free and took off running toward the Tehama/Colusa Canal. A helicopter arrived along more CHP Officers, Corning Police and Tehama County Sheriff’s Deputies with a K-9. They set up a perimeter and started searching but then a resident of Moon Road called to say a man was in his chicken coop. Candler was found with the chickens and booked into jail.
