Man Killed In High Speed Crash Near Miracle Mile

A man fled a possibly-alcohol-fueled fight in Downtown Redding and sped to his demise in a rollover crash Friday afternoon, according to police. Officers were called at 4:30PM to a fight between two people near the intersection of Market and Trinity Streets. Before officers got there one of the involved men left the scene, driving at high speed northbound on Market. His blue pickup ran into a parked car, then hit another vehicle on the North Market Street Bridge. When he reached Benton Drive there was a red light but he was going very fast and smashed into cross traffic. Two vehicles were hit, causing minor to moderate injuries to the occupants. The pickup careened out of control off the road and flipped over, landing upside down on top of the driver, according to Redding Police Sergeant Chris Smyrnos. The identity of the deceased man has not yet been made public. Witnesses are being asked to contact Redding Police.
