Prescribed Burns Planned At Whiskeytown

Seasonal prescribed burning has begun at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The East Boundary Project Area runs along the Shasta Divide, located on the hills to the south of the Old Shasta area above Centerville. The fuel reduction project is divided into units of 100 to 300 acres of Pine and Oak woodland. Understory is being burned as weather conditions allow. Burning has to be done between the high-moisture rainy season and the way-too-dry summertime. Favorable conditions are expected to continue into late May.
