DUI Checkpoint Planned For St. Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year, and law enforcement is warning that drinking and driving will be anything but lucky. Redding Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint somewhere within city limits, though they don’t announce the exact locations of checkpoints ahead of time. Officers will check for signs of impairment, as well as valid driver’s licenses. Drivers can make the process smoother by having their licenses ready to show. The CHP says that on Saint Patrick’s day last year 145 DUI arrests were made statewide and 63 people were injured or killed in DUI related crashes, and that was on a Thursday. Federal transportation officials say that on average one person dies in an alcohol related collision in the United States every 53 minutes. Those who plan to drink should always have a plan for how to get home without getting behind the wheel of a car.
