An off-duty CHP Officer shot a man dead while defending his home, according to Redding Police. Officers were dispatched at 3:08AM Sunday morning to a house on Country Oak Drive off Collyer Drive in North Redding, where the residents said someone was prowling and trying to get into the house through the back door. The area was searched but nobody was found. While officers were there a 9-1-1 call was made from another house on the same street a couple of blocks away. A man had reportedly been trying to kick in the front door. The homeowner, a CHP Officer, shot him multiple times. The man died after arriving at a hospital. Neither the dead man nor the officer has been publicly identified. Anyone with information is urged to contact the RPD.
