Interim Superintendent Appointed To Replace Armelino

A new chief of Shasta County schools has been appointed. Current Superintendent Tom Armelino will step down June 30th with a year-and-a-half remaining in his 4 year term. First elected to the post in 2006, Armelino ran unopposed in the last 3 elections. He’s leaving to accept a job as the Executive Director of the National Association of School Superintendents. At it’s meeting on Wednesday the county board announced Judy Flores as the Interim Superintendent starting July First. She’s currently the Assistant Superintendent. During her 10 years at the county schools office she brought in more than $10 Million in grants. She started her education career as a teacher and in her new role she’ll be in charge of 25 different school districts.
