Man Who Led Deputies On Chase Sentenced To 2 Years

A 36-year-old Red Bluff man has been sentenced for a high speed chase that happened less than two months ago. Very early the morning of February 12th a Tehama County Deputy pulled over a Honda Accord driven by Malachi Pugh for a traffic violation on Rawson Road near Flores Avenue. As Pugh shut off the car and turned off the lights the deputy thought he saw something being thrown out the passenger side. Before the deputy could check it out, Pugh started the Honda and took off, leading a chase at 90 miles an hour onto dusty way and then Paskenta Road. When it reached a flooded road at Red Bank Creek the Honda came to a screeching halt just short of the water and the two people inside took off on foot along the creek. Booker the K-9 went after them and took both of them down. A search at the location of the original traffic stop turned up a loaded assault rifle with a high capacity magazine. After being treated for dog bites, Pugh and the passenger were booked into jail. Convicted of evading with willful disregard for public safety, Pugh has been sentenced to 2 years in state prison.
