Sheriff’s Office Welcomes K-9 To Force

A new dog has joined the ranks of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team. Thanks to the “Friends of Shasta County K-9s”, Fritz is filling a vacancy left from the 2015 retirement of Larus. The 14-month-old German Shepherd is partnered with Patrol Deputy Trever Gusaas.  A local business, Treats Natural Pet Marketplace, has committed to providing all the food and treats Fritz will need during his law enforcement career. Two other K9’s are being reassigned because their former partners have been promoted out of patrol. Hondo is now with Deputy Timothy O’Hara and Jax is with Deputy Cary Erickson. All six of the department’s K-9s are trained to sniff out drugs as well as take down suspects.
