Body Seen Floating In River May Be Missing Man

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office is wondering if a human body seen floating into the Klamath River belonged to a missing Happy Camp man. Early Friday evening the family of 42-year-old Benjamin Arthur Camarena reported him missing, saying he had been riding his horse on Indian Creek Road, but the horse came home riderless. A short time earlier someone reported seeing a dead body floating down Indian Creek. A deputy responded to the 2nd Avenue Bridge in time to see a dead heavy-set man go by in the swift moving water. The corpse was seen again from Highway 96at the confluence of Indian Creek and the Klamath River but a search by the sheriff’s office and the CHP was unsuccessful. The search continued Saturday and Sunday with boats and divers and aircraft, but still no sign of the dead man was found, and until it is there’s no way of knowing if it’s Camarena. Apparently the water is very high and muddy.
