Man Rescued From Sacramento River

A Redding man who went for a swim in the Sacramento River was swept away by the swift current and had to be rescued, according to Redding Police. Around 9AM Monday, 28-year-old Justin Sallinen entered the river by the Sundial Bridge. He was quickly swept downstream and numerous people called 911 to report that they saw Sallinen floating down river near the Cypress Bridge. Numerous agency responded and the sheriff’s office boating safety unit launched a boat from the South Bonnyview boat ramp and headed up stream. With in a couple of minutes the deputies found Sallinen floating in the middle of the river and they were able to pull him to safety. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Sallinen reportedly told rescuers that he had decided to go for a swim in the river, and was swept away by the current.
