Man Run Over After Apparent Road Rage Incident

A Redding man ran into some trouble on his way to the casino Tuesday night. At 6:15PM Redding Police were called to Westwood Manor in South Redding. They arrived to find 18-year-old Jesse Meeder and his cousin, 29-year-old David Hyatt, who was seriously injured.  Meeder said he had been involved in a road rage incident with a man on Highway 273, who had tried to run him off the road. Meeder stopped on Westwood Avenue and the other driver followed him, apparently to confront him. The two exchanged angry words and Meeder said he was going to call the police. That’s when the other man tried to leave, but Meeder stood in front of his car and told him to wait for the police. The man apparently drove right into Meeder, knocking him over the hood of the car. Hyatt, who was up the road a short distance, started yelling at the man to stop. The car then reportedly accelerated toward Hyatt and ran him down, with the tires going over his legs. The man then fled. With a description of the car, officers began checking the area and found the car behind Win-River Casino.  Security helped locate the driver inside the casino. 60-year-old Daniel Dale Dawson was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Hyatt was hospitalized with at least one broken leg and internal injuries to his abdomen and ribs. He’s in stable condition.
