Weather Puts Damper On Blackberry Burning Project

The Redding Fire Department found some blackberry bushes just wouldn’t burn Monday, so they’ll try again later in the week. Some large piles of berry bushes and other vegetation was set for burning west of the North Market Street Bridge and south of the Sacramento River Monday. Redding Firefighters and Cal-Fire crews tried some test fires but gave up because of the high moisture level. Chief Gerry Gray says they try it in a few days. He says they want to get rid of the stuff because we’re heading into an extended warm period with winds that will quickly dry out the abundant fuels that have grown this winter and spring.
