Car Backfiring Brings Multiple Agency Response To Traffic Stop

A bit of a scare in the City of Shasta Lake that brought response from 3 different law enforcement agencies turned out to be nothing at all. At 11:10PM Thursday night Sheriff’s Sergeant Logan Stonehouse pulled over a vehicle on Pine Grove Avenue. As he got out of his patrol car and started to approach the other vehicle he heard what sounded like a single gunshot. He retreated to a defensive position and called for backup. Redding Police, the CHP and other sheriff’s deputies descended on the scene and contact was made with the driver, Theodore Boring, and his passenger, Mauro Lopez. They were detained and the car was searched but nothing was found. It was determined that the sound had been a backfire from Boring’s car. He was cited for expired registration.
