A family had to be rescued after becoming stranded in the off highway vehicle park west of Shasta Dam. 32-year-old Joshua Emerson showed up at the guard shack at the dam Thursday afternoon looking for help. He and his 3 kids, aged 9, 4 and 1, along with their mother and two friends had been driving around the off-road area in his Suburban on Wednesday when they got a flat tire. It was already dark so Joshua waited until Thursday to go for help. A CHP helicopter spotted the Suburban and guided search and rescue teams to the location. The stranded people had extra food and water with them and were in good condition.
