City Council Likely To Name Hansen As Interim Chief

A new old chief may take over the helm at Redding Police Department as early as Wednesday. At Tuesday night’s meeting the Redding City Council will be asked to bring former Chief Peter Hansen back from retirement until a more permanent replacement can be found to take the job. Hansen worked for the department for 25 years before becoming chief in 2008. For now Captain Eric Wallace is handling the chief’s responsibilities, but he also runs the investigations division. Pete Hansen has moved to Washington state but he’s willing to come back to take the temporary position as chief. He would be paid $13,000 a month and his employment would not be authorized past November.
