A hay truck caught fire just east of Montgomery Creek Thursday afternoon. At around 4:20PM the big rig with two flatbed trailers loaded with hay was westbound on Highway 299 coming down the steep hill into Montgomery Creek when the brakes apparently caught fire from overheating and failed. The driver maneuvered the blazing truck onto the runaway truck ramp. The driver got out safely. There was some spread to vegetation but Cal-Fire got it quickly under control.
