Felon Captured After High Speed Chase

Anderson Police chased a stolen car for 22 miles early Saturday morning. Following a burglary and car theft a “be on the lookout” was broadcast from the sheriff’s office to area law enforcement at 2:32AM. Seven minutes later the car was spotted driving through the Anderson Wal-Mart parking lot with no headlights. The officer followed it onto Rhonda Road to Castlewood, where backup officers and deputies arrived and a high-risk traffic stop was attempted. The car didn’t stop though, leading a chase west on Gas Point Road and then north on Happy Valley Road at over 100 miles an hour. A deputy laid out a spike strip and before hitting it the driver allegedly swerved and tried to hit the deputy. The strip flattened 3 of the tires and the car eventually slowed to 15 miles an hour. That’s when an APD Officer rammed it, sending it into a spinout. Officers say 20-year-old Jacob Tremayne quickly hopped out of the driver’s seat into the backseat and claimed the driver had run away. He and the passenger, 36-year-old Luis Ayala, surrendered to Chance the K-9. When questioned, Tremayne apparently said he had tried to get away because Ayala told him to. Ayala, who had 3 felony warrants for car theft and evading, reportedly admitted to committing the burglary and stealing the car.
