A man from Walla Walla, Washington was killed in a head-on crash in Siskiyou County very early Tuesday morning. A 9-1-1 call was made at 12:42AM from Highway 97 north of the Grass Lake Rest Area. The 26-year-old driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe was driving very fast, according to a witness. He was also driving south on the northbound side of the highway. A trucker from North Dakota was northbound and tried to avoid a collision but the Hyundai plowed head-on into his Freightliner. The Washington man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The CHP says they haven’t determined if alcohol or distracted driving played a role in the crash, but they say excessive speed was definitely a factor.
