State Fish and Wildlife Officials are still hunting for an alleged poacher accused of shooting at a wildlife officer in Humboldt County. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says that on August 21st of last year the warden was patrolling for poachers off Highway 36 near Carlotta and attempted to stop a pickup truck carrying people suspected of spotlighting – shining a bright light into an animal’s eyes at night to freeze it in place before shooting it. A man in the back of the truck shot at the officer as he tried to stop their vehicle. The poachers continued firing at the officer as he pursued them until they crashed into a tree and fled on foot. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office somehow determined that the shooter was 24-year-old Shawn Eugene Hof Jr. He’s 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Several non-profit organizations have pitched in for a reward of $20,000.
