Forest Service crews have made good progress on fires to the north, though new fires are being sparked by new storms.
The Modoc Lightning Complex is more than 83,000 acres, with more than a dozen new fires sparked by the most recent storms. Overall containment is now 91%. 4 firefighters have been injured of the 1700 working the fires. The Steele Fire north and east of Clear Lake Reservoir near the Oregon border is 46,000 acres. The 39,000 acre Cove Fire northwest of Adin is now fully contained.
The Parker 2 Fire, burning in the Warner Mountains of Modoc County, started last Thursday and has grown to 8100 acres with 30% containment.
7 miles southwest of Happy Camp, the Clear Fire has burned over 6500 acres of steep heavily forested terrain, with 60% containment.
Lightning this week has expanded the Orleans Complex of fires in the Six Rivers National Forest, 20 miles north of Orleans, which now includes 15 fires totaling more than 5,000 acres with overall containment of 11%. The largest is the 3800 acre Ukonom Fire, which continues to spread through very steep terrain.
