A registered sex offender was caught being lewd next to a Redding parochial school. At 7:30AM Wednesday morning Corporal Will Williams was dispatched to the Trinity Lutheran Church and school on Hilltop Drive on a report that a man was destroying a fence that runs between the back of the church and Fator’s Suzuki on Grove Street. Williams found something very unpleasant on the ground within a hundred feet of the school’s classrooms. It was 57-year-old Steven Lewis lying on his back, allegedly with his pants undone touching himself inappropriately. He was fortunately out of the view of the schoolchildren, but staff at the school could see what he was doing. Being a convicted sex offender, Lewis is prohibited from being anywhere near a school. He’s also on felony probation for theft-related crimes and had a 4-inch fixed blade knife in his back pocket. He was booked into jail on several serious charges.
