A big rig loaded with hay started fire Friday, completely blocking Highway 299 east of Redding. The fire was first reported a little after Noon between Ingot and Round Mountain. Callers said it looked like the truck’s hot brakes caught fire and it spread to the load, quickly engulfing the entire rig and its load of hay bales in flames. There was some spread to the vegetation as well, but Cal-Fire and Shasta County Fire got it contained.
