Deputies Say Man Shot By Girlfriend After Argument

Detectives say an Ono man made up a story to keep his girlfriend from getting in trouble for shooting him with a shotgun. Just after 10 O’clock Saturday.night 34-year-old Travis Douglas showed up at the Cal-Fire Station on Platina Road in Ono with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He said it happened while he was positioning a 20 gauge shotgun over his shoulder with a sling. He was transported to Mercy Hospital for his non-life threatening wound. Meanwhile, a Shasta County Sheriff’s Department investigation began. They learned that the shooting happened at Douglas’ home on Trinity Alps Vista, where he lives with 5 other people, including his girlfriend, 34-year-old Laura Jones. The two had apparently been arguing about him wanting to leave and as Douglas was walking out with the shotgun slung over his shoulder Jones allegedly grabbed the gun and intentionally discharged it into Douglas’ shoulder. Jones was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. When Douglas recovers he’ll be charged with being a felon in possession of a gun.
